Virginia Beach’s oceanfront is a major draw for tourists, with the boardwalk as one of its key attractions. Spanning three miles from 2nd Street to 40th Street, this paved path is lined with dining, retail, and entertainment venues. Neptune’s Park, featuring the city’s famous King Neptune statue, hosts concerts and outdoor events, while fishing enthusiasts often frequent the piers at 15th and 24th Streets.

Luxury hotels play a substantial role in this scene by offering features like gourmet dining, ocean-view pools, and specialized wellness services that make the coastal experience even better. Positioned near the boardwalk, some of the best of these properties will place you within easy walking distance of great public beaches and water sports.

The best of these luxury hotels on Virginia Beach Boardwalk also include amenities such as on-site spas, rooftop dining, beach concierge programs, and (yeah!) complimentary bicycles to ride and explore on. Read on to find out more…

Built in 1927, The Historic Cavalier Hotel features 85 guest rooms restored during an $85 million renovation project completed in 2018. Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, today it offers a blend of classical architecture and modern conveniences that makes it a “must-stay” personal favorite… and all just a short stroll away from the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.

Among the most popular accommodations here are the spacious Signature King Rooms, each of which retains original architectural details while providing modern comforts. Large marble bathrooms are especially pleasant to relax in thanks to their deep soaker tub. Add to this their plush bedding and thoughtfully curated décor that perfectly reflects the hotel’s storied past and you’re talking classic elegance and luxury. The inclusion of delicious fresh-baked cookies at the end of every day was a much-welcomed treat.

The Cavalier also boasts plenty of first-rate amenities, too, including the first (and only) distillery located within a US hotel. Named the Tarnished Truth Distilling Company, it’s worth popping in and picking up a bottle or two of their bourbon and craft spirits (you can also sample these at the hotel’s Raleigh Room bar). As for dining, Becca focuses on farm-to-table cuisine sourced from local producers, while The Hunt Room serves pub-style fare in an upscale setting. Afternoon teas are also available, an especially nice treat when the patios are open.

The hotel’s vast 6,200-square-foot SeaHill Spa provides an array of treatments, sauna facilities, and an indoor pool for relaxation. Valet parking is also available, so ditch the car and make use of the free bike service available to you at the hotel’s partner Marriott Hotel (see below) and cycle along the boardwalk. You also have access to the classy Beach Club, a beachside guest facility with its own pool and access to the beach.

It’s worth pointing out that while the Cavalier has a 4-star rating, it really does feel every inch like a 5-star hotel. It’s so good, in fact, we’ve also included it on our list of the top historic hotels in Virginia, too.
